The Yamaha MT 15 is essentially the naked version of the R15 v3 with more upright ergonomics that are better suited to everyday use. The Yamaha MT 15 BS6 variant has been launched in India at Rs 1,38,900(ex-showroom). Let’s talk about the mileage, the fuel capacity of Yamaha MT15 is 10 litres. As reported by Yamaha MT 15 owners, the real mileage of MT 15 is 45-50 kmpl. It delivers better mileage than 83% of commuters.

Yamaha MT 15 Specifications and Features

1.Engine

The Yamaha MT 15 has the same engine as the R15 which generates 18.5 bhp of power @ 10000 rpm and 13.9 nm of torque @ 8500 rpm from its 155cc engine liquid-cooled SOHC engine. The MT15 engine also gets the Yamaha’s VVA(Variable Valve Actuation) technology. The single-cylinder engine of MT 15 has a 6-speed manual gearbox via an assist and slipper clutch.

2.Assist & Slipper Clutch

An A&S (assist and slipper) clutch is adopted to reduce the weight of the clutch pull and provide low-stress shifting during deceleration. The A&S helps to reduce fatigue for the rider. This also prevents excessive engine braking, thus reducing its effects on chassis behavior. The A&S clutch makes for smooth, enjoyable downshifts.

3.Tyres

The top variant of Yamaha MT 15 also has 220mm rear and 282mm front disk brakes with an anti-locking braking system in the front disc.

Front Disc with Bosch Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) helps in achieving improved braking performance by providing better stability and control at all speeds without any wheel lockups and skidding even in slippery conditions. Rear Disc brake augments more quality to the MT Legacy.

The tyre of Yamaha MT 15 BS6 is 100/80-17mm on the front side and 140/70-17mm super wide Radial Tyre on the rear side.

4.Seat

The seat Yamaha MT 15 is very comfortable which makes the rider sit comfortably even on a long trip or short. But when it comes to the pillion rider, it might not be very comfortable. However, Yamaha provided Uni-Level Seat with grab bars on both the side of the seat making the pillion easy to hold better grip.

5.Delta-Box Frame

Yamaha MT 15 gets a Deltabox frame. The suspension duties are performed by telescopic forks at the front and a swingarm (link suspension) at the rear.

6.Side-Stand Enginecut-off switch

Like the R15, the Yamaha MT 15 also gets the side-stand engine cut-off switch which the rider can be assured to be safe in those immediate bike rides. The side-stand cut-off system switches off the engine when the side stand is on. Though this is not completely new to the Indian market, Yamaha plans to make this feature mandatory in all its two-wheelers. While some Indian OEMs have an indicator for the side-stand, KTM, Hero MotoCorp, TVS Motor Co and Honda have implemented such a kill switch in some of their products.
